Gillian is a self taught crafter located in Sussex, but much of her work here in the gallery was hand-made in Galloway during regular visits to family.
Leather is a beautiful natural material and Gillian celebrates that beauty alongside the scars, blemishes and other imperfections in her work. Gillian works mainly with leather offcuts from high-end bag makers, upholsterers or the automotive industry.
By developing her network of suppliers she stops leather becoming waste and gives it new life in her creations. Her inspiration for each item comes from the leather itself.
She considers each individual hide or skin to see what it could make, so concentrates on small runs of items which may be similar, but usually unique. In addition to the items here in the Gallery Gillian hand makes bags, books and lots of other things from leather. She’s working on her website and a link will be added soon. In the meantime Gillian can be contacted via the Gallery.
